Sogna’s Fountain

The fountain is situated in the woods in the south of Sogna, at about 140 meters from the village. For a long time, at least until the 1950s, this fountain had been used by the villagers as a water supply. This element is characterised by a masonry structure embedded directly in the virgin rock. This rock was dug and adjusted so that it could contain spring water. Externally the structure shows a wide full arch, made up of bricks and recently fixed with modern perforated bricks. Inside the walls show remains of hydraulic plaster, whereas the basin, aimed at collecting water, was created by digging directly the virgin rock. The covering is made up of a vaulted arch, made up of stone. Outside you can find a small stone basin, dug in a unique monolithic block of sandstone.
