The site is placed west of the hamlet of Montebenichi, on the border with the Castelnuovo Berardenga’s municipality, near the river Ambra. Currently the medieval remains are assimilated in the recently restored farmhouse. The place is reported in the Charters of the Guelph Side Captains of the 16th century, under the name of Castello di Macerato, therefore, a fortified center, probably, in order to control the road that led from Rosennano to Montebenichi. Of the original structures the tower is visible which, despite having gone through various building interventions over the centuries, still preserves many defensive typological elements. Currently the property is a private residence that cannot be visited.
The Virtual Museum of Valdambra is a project of the Municipality of Bucine and the Valdambra Association.
