Church of San Michele Arcangelo in Duddova

DUDDOVA

TIPOLOGY: architectonic
PERIOD: medieval – modern
DATING: ?
DEFINITION: church
DESCRIPTION: The current appearance of the building is the result of some restoration work carried out in the second half of the 20th century. The origin of the church is medieval and was under the dependencies of the Abbey of San Pietro a Roti; moreover it is attested in some documents of the 13th century.
Currently the building of worship has an east-west orientation with a single hall with a gabled roof, it shows external vestments made of ashlars of small size, arranged on regular courses: this masonry technique could be due to the original medieval phase. Internally the church has architectural features that can be traced back to a chronological phase between the end of the 17th century and the 19th century. The walls are plastered and there are no frescoes or other types of wall painting. The bell tower was built at the beginning of the 20th century.

The Virtual Museum of Valdambra is a project of the Municipality of Bucine and the Valdambra Association.
