Public Wash House of Bucine

TIPOLOGY: architectonic
PERIOD: modern
DEFINITION: public wash house
DESCRIPTION: Public washhouse placed in Bucine, near the town hall. The presence of spring waters in the place is already documented in medieval sources: in fact the papers talk about a tower, corresponding with the building placed right of the town hall and above the current wash house, defined as the tower of the Source.
The structure has now lost much of its original characteristics as it was incorporated into a recently building, used as a municipal warehouse. Currently the structure is completely plastered with a gable roof and a roof covering in Marseilles. Access is in the public road through an opening with a lowered arch, while on the rear façade there are four arches, again with a lowered arch. Internally is present a large stone basin divided into four parts for washing. The floor is made of sandstone slabs.

The Virtual Museum of Valdambra is a project of the Municipality of Bucine and the Valdambra Association.
